Summary: Two sequences: counter-narcotics vehicle scanner in Kabul, and Major General Robison on a tour of Maimana (Meymaneh) with members of the PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team).
Description: I. A vehicle checkpoint at one of Kabul's city gates: two large lorries are parked for inspection, under the watchful eye of the Afghan Counter-Narcotics Police. Tools are laid out on the ground (including spanners, drills and boltcutters). Close-up of Kabul police vehicle and numberplate. At the checkpoint is a vehicle-based Rapiscan scanner, with a scanning boom large enough to be driven over a full sized lorry. Highly decorated lorry is inspected visually by policeman, who checks wheel arches and other areas with a hammer looking for hidden compartments (some shaky shots as the camera is moved around). Drill is used to check the fairings above the cab. The lorry is then checked by the scanner vehicle and allowed to continue its journey. Close-ups of the scanner vehicle, including computer screen showing the scan of the lorry.
II. Major General Garry Robison RM, DCOM (Deputy Commander) of Stability for ISAF in Meymaneh: he greets local children before going on a fact-finding tour of the town. He visits "Maimana Public Hospital", where he talks with the staff and visits various areas, including the Community Based Drug Addicts' Treatment Centre (exterior), a (primitive) hospital kitchen, accident and emergency. He then goes on to visit other reconstruction projects (buildings, drainage schemes) being undertaken by the PRT. At various points he is accompanied by Norwegian and Finnish officers from the PRT.
