  • Summary: The annual Liberation Day in Stanley, the Falkland Islands, a special occasion as this is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the liberation itself, attended by HRH Prince Edward, various other dignitaries, members of all three services and islanders.
  • Description: Reporter Peter Grant records an introduction (apparently for a radio broadcast). Senior officers begin to arrive at Christ Church Cathedral. Interview with Ailsa Heathmanone of the islanders who supported the Parachute Regiment during the campaign. Further guests begin to arrive at the Cathedral: there is a large media presence. The final guests to arrive are HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Wessex, and His Excellency Alan Huckle, Governor of the Falkland Island (latter wearing the ceremonial ostrich-plumed helmet). The service inside the cathedral is not shown. Ceremony at the memorial in Stanley: naval honour guard by sailors from HMS Exeter: marchpast and parade: this is mainly shown in long shot (with occasional zooms) from fixed camera position. Prince Edward, with Alan Huckle and Adam Ingram amongst others, stand to attention as the National Anthem is played. Ceremony continues with the Lord's Prayer, Last Post and two minutes silence, before wreaths are laid, led by Prince Edward. (Among those present can be seen Brigadier Nick Davies, Commander of British Forces South Atlantic Islands, and Lord Parkinson, who was attending as the representative of Baroness Thatcher.) Parade presents arms as Prince Edward salutes. Flypast of aircraft and helicopters. Band marches past playing jaunty music at the end of the formal ceremony.
