  • Description: I. Caption "Op Herrick 6 Lashkar Gah Afghanistan. 26 Engineer Regiment is currently deployed in Helmand Province with 12 Mechanised Brigade as part of Britain's support to the government of Afghanistan in rebuilding the country. The regiment has a particularly unique role, leading on the reconstruction and development works across the Province; helping to establish schools, refurbish hospitals and rebuild war-torn infrastructure, as well as improving the physical barriers and defences that protect the British bases. 26 Engineer Regiment regularly carry out recce patrols through the Lashkar Gah area." Interview with Staff Sergeant Tony Everton of 26 Engineer Regiment, discussing the aim of stopping insurgents entering the area, and liaison with local people about engineer tasks in the area. On a road in Lashkar Gah, 26 Engineer Regiment set up a snap vehicle checkpoint. The road is strewn with gravel as it is currently being renovated; new drainage culverts can be seen on either side. Cars (and their occupants) are searched. Soldier talks with elderly local man through translator; others gather. II. Caption "UK Police Mentoring Team Lashkar Gah Afghanistan". British Army Police Mentoring Team (including members of the Royal Irish Regiment and the Military Police) on patrol with members of the Afghan Police on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, and visiting an Afghan Police Station. Interview with Major Max Wray, Officer Commanding the Police Mentoring Team, discussing the allocation of resources, mentoring and training of the Afghan National Police, and the structures of the teams (Military Police do the actual mentoring, with patrol soldiers there for force protection). Interview with Sergeant Major James Johnson, the Patrol Commander, who describes what the patrol set out to achieve (checking the police and that the manning of permanent vehicle checkpoints, and reporting on the needs - kit etc - of the Afghan Police). (This item has a voiceover). III. Caption "4 Logistics Support Regiment. Combat Logistics Patrol in Support of Operation Chakush". Preparation for the patrol. Second Lieutenant Rob McAllister, Combat Logistics Patrol Commander explains the background to the patrol (in voiceover, with footage of preparations in the background). Briefing by Second Lieutenant McAllister gives final briefing. Force protection from WMIKs and Vectors. Resupplying of troops near Gereshk, and taking supplies for the setting up of FOB Arnhem. Setting up of a playpark for children in Safian, the first of its kind in the area, 26 Engineer Squadron RE. Staff Sergeant Harmon schecks the safety aspects of the park; interview with Corporal Nicky Botha. V. Caption "Op Herrick 6 Lashkar Gah Afghanistan. The Joint Civil Military Cooperation Group, or CIMIC, is a specialist unit that manages the interface between military and civilian organisations, ensuring that both communities work closely to attain maximum efficiency in achieving their aims. Corporal Nicky Botha is a military interpreter and a CIMIC adviser. She has been instrumental in many of the UK led reconstruction projects in Helmand Province. Corporal Botha brought together some of the most influential women in the Province, for the first time, at a Women's Focus Group". Interview with Corporal Botha. "With the support of CIMIC, the UK led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand has implemented over 100 Quick Impact Projects aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Afghans, despite the challenging security environment". VI. Caption "Camp Bastion Summer 2007". Profile of Camp Bastion, with illustrative footage. Major Gary Thomas discusses the engineering support facility currently being built. The temporary tented hospital is shown, and the new "hardened, tier two" hospital under construction. Water bottling plant is also mentioned. Ground prepared for building of Corrimec accommodation. NAAFI and Pizza Hut. Bastion 2 (tented camp at the moment).
