  • Summary: Preparations for Operation Mar Karadad, the retaking of Musa Qala from occupying Taliban forces, showing a logistic convoy on their way to the area. (Activities between 4 and 6 December, just prior to the entry into Musa Qala.)
  • Description: Convoy on the move at night. Early morning scenes: vehicles are gathered at a base as British soldiers are supplied with ammunition. Communications antenna is cleaned and its tripod legs covered in material. Ammunition is stacked up, ammunition belts are checked and stored in cases (note small memorial nearby made of stones, with a wreath remaining from Remembrance Day). Convoy (mainly Snatch Land Rovers and supply vehicles) on the move across the desert and over hills on their way to Musa Qala. Afghan National Army soldiers and their vehicles; one soldier holds a small child. Another holds up a piece of paper to the camera. This is a message from the Afghan government for distribution to the people of Musa Qala to reassure them: translator reads it out in English ("we are here to give you the hand of brotherhood"). The Afghan General is asked whether he thinks the operation will succeed: he replies If god is willing, we will do it. Group of Afghan soldiers pose for photographs. US soldier talks with local man and hands out chocolate. Afghan General talks with local elder. At a lay-up position, soldiers dig a series of shell scrapes (one has been given a mock gravestone, "RIP Pte Carabine 2519/341"). Soldiers (British and Afghan) rest beside their vehicles; some kick a ball around. Display of Afghan images in a tent. Briefings prior to the operation: task is to secure a route for logistics elements to the west of Musa Qala, in support of the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division around Musa Qala, and to assist the movements of the Afghan National Army's Kandaks (battalions).
