Description: Interview with Lieutenant Colonel Nesbit, consultant in anaesthetics and resuscitation with the Joint Forces Medical Group, describing a typical day at the hospital: ward round in the morning, surgery and emergency admissions from the helicopter medical evacuations. He also contrasts the work at the hospital with his usual job back in Newcastle.

Continuation of the tour, with a visit (by Land Rover) to the helicopter pad where casualties are brought in; Lieutenant Colonel Nesbit discusses emergency procedures and the use of the helicopter. Chinook on the pad - the Immediate Response Team's helicopter. Changeover of team at the end of a shift: the new team comes onto the field in a battlefield ambulance. Medics check their guns (reminding us that they are still soldiers) and also check the medical equipment and supplies on board the Chinook. (It was intended to film further inside the helicopter, but the Team received a "shout" - the IRT and MERT (Medical Emergency Response Team) get on board the helicopter takes off on its way to pick up fresh casualties. Apache helicopter also flies past to provide cover.
Outside the hospital, some time later: patient, wrapped in silver thermal blanket, is loaded from the back of a battlefield ambulance (which has brought the patient from the helipad). Trauma team gets to work on the patient; specialist teams stand by in case they are needed (Lieutenant Colonel Nesbit describes the roles of various personnel). Patient is moved from the stretcher onto a trolley and an assessment is made of the patient's condition; there are no immediately noticeable life-threatening injuries, but a deeper examination will also be made. X-rays are taken using the portable machine shown earlier. (The patient was caught beneath a falling wall and has crush injuries to chest and abdomen, including a cracked pelvis.)
