  • Description: C130 Hercules on the old runway at Camp Bastion; matériel is unloaded. Officers and aircrew talk with the Afghan contractors (difficult to hear due to aircraft engine noise). The runway is officially opened by Air Commodore Graham Howard (Commander National Support Command Afghanistan and also Deputy Commander British Forces), who cuts the traditional tape. Interview with Air Commodore Howard, who discusses the advantages of the new concrete runway. Later, soldiers gather and form up as Gordon Brown and Defence Secretary Des Browne arrive for a visit; the PM poses for a photograph with a Raith Rovers footbal shirt and then meets troops, including Warrior crews. He addresses the gathered soldiers. (this sequence takes place on 10 December.)
