  • Summary: A C17 Globemaster transport aircraft of 99 Squadron llands at Camp Bastion for the first time. It is a night landing, and the proceedings are shot using an image intensifier.
  • Description: Tripod is set up; there is much glare from runway lights. Suddenly, there is a flash of light in the sky which grows as the Globemaster approaches. It flies past the camera position and lands, before taxiing some distance and eventually stopping near the camera. The rear door opens and pallets of matériel are unloaded. Normal colour image: interior of the C17. Loaders work to unchain a mechanical digger. Loadmaster raises and lowers the rear cargo door of the aircraft and the digger is driven off. (Two such diggers had been brought in on this flight.) Interview with Flight Lieutenant Simon Boyle, Captain of 99 Squadron, talking about the smoothness of the flight and landing, and about the experience of flying the C17. Wide shot of the C17's empty cargo bay. Interview with (unnamed) Duty Air Movements Officer (DAMO) at Bastion discussing the heavy load capabilities of the C17.
