Description: Interview with Major Mark Bower, Second in Command of 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment's Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT), discussing the establishment of a district compound in the Musa Qala area; it is being built for use by both ISAF and by Afghan National Army. He discusses the role of the British Royal Engineers in the construction of this project, and the importance of the OMLTs which will remain for as long as needed.
Engineer vehicle park. Royal Engineers and Afghan National Army soldiers walk through the compund under construction. General views of the compound. Lorry-mounted crane moves a dead tree. Rudimentary low rise building made of brick; makeshift sign says "ISAF ONLY". Tree is burnt under the watchful eye of a British soldier. Parts of an animal skull on the ground. A cannabis plant is set alight by the soldier: it burns furiously. Petrol is applied to a large bush which is also set alight.
General views of the compound and construction work, including shots of various buildings.
Foot patrol through barren area; accompanying the soldiers is an explosives search dog. (Camerawork is shaky as camera is being carried at a low level.) Lynx helicopter lands nearby. Cameraman runs shakily towards a Vector vehicle to join colleague (who is carrying a case bearing the Media Operations logo). They move across and board the helicopter. Shaky shots on board the helicopter. View through the window shows another Lynx on the ground nearby. Camera-aircraft takes off; views on board. Helicopter flies over Afghan village, viewed through the flight deck windows. Further in-flight views. Helicopter comes in to land at British base; second Lynx lands nearby. Camera is disembarked (more shaky shots). Apache helicopter comes in to land.
