Description: Soldiers stand at the edge of field; they talk to local shepherd. Panning shot of field with poppy shoots beginning to come through the ground; stills cameraman takes photographs. Close-ups of the cracked earth. Further shaky shots of the field. Second field where the plants have grown much taller. Narrow canal with village on the opposite bank. Scenes in the village; soldiers talk with local men. Further panning shots of field and canal. Radio aerial is erected on the roof of the Land Rover. Further shaky shots of poppy field. Soldiers carry out inspections in the fields and talk with other men. (Stills photographer talks informally to camera, but lack of sound mean that his words cannot be heard.) Snatch Land Rovers at roadside: soldier on top cover keeps watch. Vehicles drive off in convoy through the village (view from top cover.) Gunner keeps watch. Convoy parks at second location, largely barren; soldiers stay alert. (Sound starts 31 minutes into the tape.) Afghan police officers pose assist the British patrol; brief discussion about Taliban movements. Patrol sets off again (view from top cover) and drives through village and past roadside market.
