Description: In this issue only, some speeches are translated into English subtitles, the camera dwells on slogans in English, and there are passages of English commentary. A speech by a man identified by titles as Mr Sastroamidjojo speaks of the justice of the Independence cause, and proclaims the Republic. The commentary explains that 14 September had seen simultaneous mass meetings all over Java and Madura over the proclamation of independence: film of a flag-raising ceremony, and two more speeches (Mr Bafagih and Mr Wilopo). Slogans, many of them in English and citing the language of the American Declaration of Independence, cover buildings and trams (in Djakarta ?); the commentary speaks of the strength of nationalist sentiment, claiming sympathy of Chinese youth movement. Closing scenes of a mass rally held on September 19 "in spite of official (Japanese ?) bans", (at which Sukarno speaks ?).
