Summary: A rough collection of unedited mute English film and extracts from German newsreels on the "Market Garden" airborne operations at Arnhem etc.
Description:Much of the material is genuine, but some extraneous film is included as padding. The chronological sequence is lost; there are four major themes which occur in the different cans as follows:
I. The base airfields - an impressive array of gliders and aircraft (1); British and US paratroops waiting, kitting-up, embarking (1-3); loading equipment into gliders (6-7); aircraft take-offs (all cans).
II. The aerial convoy in flight, the dropping zone (6-7); English film of paratroops, supply canisters and gliders landing and unloading (5-7); British paratroops with civilians, with prisoners, marching, removing demolition charge from captured bridge (Nijmegen) (2-5).
III. German newsreel film of the aerial assault and their own countermeasures: AA fire, fighters, crashing aircraft, infantry and armour move-up, counterattack (2-5).
IV. British tanks, artillery etc (the relief column) are welcomed as liberators in Eindhoven (troops of the Guards Armoured Division) (3-4).
