The first pictures of the fall of Mandalay.
- Description: I. "COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S WAR PAGEANT FOR LEGISLATIVE MEMBERS" India's Commander-in-Chief General Auchinleck hosts his annual garden party. He greets his guests who are both Indian and British. Scenes show guests seated at tables having tea. The Royal Indian Army Service Corps with the cooperation of the RAF put on a supply dropping display. Indian sappers and miners demonstrate how to construct a bailey bridge and vehicles drive over it. Guests observe from their tables. Views of crowds in the stands at Irwin stadium. Pantomime elephants of 5th Maratha Light Infantry march past. Arab troops of Hyderabad state put on an exhibition of musical rifle drill. Views of the Royal Indian Navy doing physical training. The Indian Signal Corps put on a motorcycle display. Views of the crowds in the stands. Bands from six Indian Regimental centres march past for the finale and Auchinleck takes the salute. II. "FAUJI SEVARDARNIS' PART IN THE PEOPLES WAR" Lady Glancy, wife of the Punjab Governor, arrives at Jullundur (Jalandhar), Punjab, to preside at a conference of Fauji Sevardarnis (women workers). "The work of the Fauji Sevadarni is not easy. She goes from house to house listening to complaints, writing letters and keeping an eye on welfare arrangements." Lady Glancy greets various officials and Indian women workers. An Indian woman worker makes a speech, followed by Lady Glancy, who also distributes prizes to the women in recognition of their work. III. "MANDALAY" Scenes relating to the fall of Mandalay. Views of 14th Army troops with vehicles and mules. A 25-pounder gun is brought across a bridge. A DUKW amphibious vehicle enters and crosses a river. Troops walk behind a vehicle and then make their way across a field. Views of Mandalay Hill. A Republic Thunderbolt fighter aircraft flies away from the camera and drops bombs over Fort Dufferin, raising clouds of dust. Four more shots of Thunderbolts dropping bombs and shots of dust rising from the explosions. A party of visitors arrive (walking left to right) to visit the battle zone. This includes Mr Richard Gardiner Casey, Governor of Bengal, Lieutenant-General Sir William Slim, commander 14th Army and Major-General Rees, commander of 19th Indian Division. The group climb a staircase towards the top of Mandalay Hill and look out over the city from a balcony. Further scenes show Thunderbolts dropping bombs and explosions from the bombardment. 14th Army Units cross the Fort Dufferin moat. Fortifications have been breached and the infantry goes in. Advance units enter the North gateway into Fort Dufferin supported by infantry formations. Shot of troops walking past and waving their hats in the air. Scenes show troops with civilian women and children refugees. A BBC War Correspondent interviews a civilian woman. Jeeps and Indian troops on foot pass by. General Rees and staff view the damage done to Dufferin's walls by Allied artillery. Shots of troops and views of the damage done to the city. Troops line up for a ceremonial parade. General Slim's jeep, driven by General Rees, moves slowly down the main road flanked by troops. The Union Jack flag is hoisted.
