Description: A soldier ("Corporal Webster") is shot in the leg in the Singaporean jungle (staged sequence) and evacuated by helicopter to hospital where Nurse Gay Armstrong of the QARANC assists the new arrival and explains her job. Flashback to Gay's first entry into the army: attending lectures, being fitted for uniform, training (choices of SRN & SEN available), ward work at a Woolwich hospital. Accommodation, more training. Relocation to Singapore, local life (markets etc), working (theatre technique, child care etc). Helping Captain Webster to walk again. Leaving Singapore to take final examinations, while talking about "the excitement of being an army nurse".
