A Midlands hospital sets up a temporary new Rehabilitation Physiotherapy unit while awaiting funds for a more permanent expansion : the story, narrated by 'Dr Adamson' has the dual function of 'physical medicine' in the recovery of patients and pointing the moral that significant improvements can be made without optimum facilities.
Description: The film opens with an 'AA Book' introduction to "Melbury" and a portrait of the overworked Physio department. Application for a major expansion is turned down, but permission is obtained, from the hospital committee and higher authorities, to convert an old army hut as a stop-gap measure, provided a minimal budget is not overspent. The improvised conversion soon provides, as a "going concern", offices for staff, a gymnasium for group exercise therapy (several illustrations) and beds for the treatment of individual cases. Rising cost of equipment blocks the hoped-for third section - Occupational Therapy. A fortunate chain of circumstances suggests a solution (incomplete).
