Summary: Promotional/career film showing the advantages and importance of army nursing.
Description: The film begins by showing an operation and indicates the important role that nurses have to play in the recovery of the patient. Student nurses are shown in Cyprus, Germany and Chelsea. A brief outline history is given as the film moves towards the Royal Pavilion at Aldershot, where training begins. Among other things shown is the uniform, designed by the Royal dressmaker, Norman Hartnell. The student nurses spend six weeks in Aldershot where they are shown being taught basic education, military education and first aid. State Registered Nurses are filmed spending a further eight weeks at Aldershot and State Enrolled Nurses in Colchester. The film suggests that young women who don't want to become nurses could become medical clerks or dental hygienists. Nurses are filmed training abroad in Hong Kong and Berlin. The film concludes by showing the nurses coming home for their final assessment and suggests that 'training with the army is the most rewarding and exciting way'.
