Summary: Material held in fact comprises five variant versions of a single short film about the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall rather than a single long (5-reel) film.
Description: The versions are as follows: -01. (445') The school's band is shown performing jazz, Glenn Miller-style dance music, an arrangement incorporating a xylophone solo, and the '1812 Overture'. Soundtrack, after a few introductory words, is entirely musical. -02. (374') The film opens with the approach of a band uniformed and playing in the style of Marlborough's army, which is replaced by a modern regimental band seen marching in front of the Hall. The scene then shifts to the school's music hall where the pupils play some classical arrangements. -03 (271') A shortened version of 1, omitting the Glenn Miller-style music and xylophone solo. -04 (223') A shortened version of 2, omitting the classical music and much of the military band sequence. -05 (251') Opens with the "Marlborough's army band" sequence from 2; old instruments are preserved at Kneller Hall (School Museum). Students come to learn every aspect of music, and their instructors include well-known musical personalities. Instruction in instruments and composition class. Film ends with the school band assembled in the hall playing a piece composed by a student.
