Summary: (Vichy) French newsreel.
Description: 1. a) John Amery speaks at a meeting in Paris against Anglo-American air raids against civilians and attacks the clique which pushed Britain into this murderous war. Banner reads "Union of revolutionary forces against reaction and against Bolshevism". b) Pétain, before his temporary departure from Vichy on 7 May, attends the ceremony of the colours. He is acclaimed by a large crowd singing 'Marechal, nous voila' then leaves the Hotel du Parc with the Marechal. Laval and other members of the government stand on the steps. French national wireless vehicle is visible.
2. a) Crowds acclaim Pétain travelling from his provisional residence through Rambouillet, Evreux, and Louviers to devastated Rouen, where he attends mass at St Ouen on 14 May. Monsignor Petit de Juleville accompanies the head of state who then lays a wreath in honour of Joan of Arc, "symbol of our unity." b) Philippe Henriot, Minister of Information and Propaganda, delivers a rousing speech to an outdoor gathering at Lyon describing Pétain as the incarnation of the wounded motherland. Fascist pageantry includes Milice and Parti populaire francais insignia. c) New LVF recruits at Versailles put on a sporting display. Winners receive bottles of wine from a German officer. Officers and men with their families hold an evening celebration, united by their ideal, the struggle against Bolshevism.
3. a) Pétain attends Mass at a small village near his provisional residence on 22 May, before visiting a bombed suburb of Paris and decorating rescuers at Villeneuve St. Georges. b) Children in bomb ruins. (Abrupt end).
