Description:a) De Gaulle awards Eisenhower the Cross of Liberation at the base of the Arc de Triomphe on 14 June. Bedell Smith waits to receive the Cross of the Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. Ceremony is attended by Diethelm, Koenig, Giraud, US Ambassador Jefferson Caffery and others. Afterwards Eisenhower drives down the Champs Elysées in an open vehicle with Koenig, then receives a sword of honour from de Gaulle.
b) State visit of Sultan Mohammed V of Morocco to France. Sultan disembarks from the cruiser Gloire with Jacquinot and transfers to the royal train before being met by de Gaulle and Bidault. Sultan reviews a Moroccan guard of honour then together with de Gaulle drives in a carriage with cavalry escort through Paris.
c) Sultan Mohammed attends the Auteuil races.
d) Flashback sequence of staged material and stock shots gives a Gaullist view of the recovery of France after 1940. Germans enter Paris, Battle of Britain, Bush House (BBC) and broken record of de Gaulle's appeal on 18 June with text, Pétain signs armistice, which people indignantly reject, French colonies rally to de Gaulle, London Blitz, No 4 Carlton Gardens, handful of French troops march past de Gaulle and train in country, Free French Navy, artillery and infantry in N Africa 1942-43, French armour penetrates village.
e) Sultan attends the great military ceremony in Paris on 18 June when de Gaulle, flanked by Jacquinot, Tillon, Diethelm and Monsabert, takes the salute at a parade by all the services including the Foreign Legion, Air Force (with overhead flypast), women's services (AFAT), the Deuxième Division Blindée headed by Leclerc and many armoured vehicles.
