Summary: Red Army Lieutenant Ludmilla Pavlichenko addresses a women's meeting in London, possibly at the Empress Hall.
Description: The speaker, Lieutenant Ludmilla Pavlichenko of the Red Army (and in uniform), stands at the microphone and addresses the audience in Russian; they can be heard periodically laughing and/or applauding. In the background are a number of women delegates (including Tamara Rust and possibly Mrs D N Pritt), and banners proclaiming "LONDON WOMEN'S ANSWER TO FASCISM - INTO THE FACTORIES AND THE SERVICES!" and "UNITED NATIONS ACCLAIM BRITISH-SOVIET TREATY" act as a backdrop. She apologises for speaking in England but not in English, and sends greetings from the Soviet Union. There are references to women in the Red Army, to Stalin and to Russian cities - Moscow, Leningrad and Stalingrad. After the speech has finished, the speaker is presented with various items including a large handgun (Lieutenant Pavlichenko had been a sniper), a stack of books and a metal teapot; various British delegates emphasise solidarity. (On two occasions the interpreter, Tamara Rust, goes to the microphone, but the film cuts before she speaks). Final scene of all those on the platform standing for the (British) national anthem.
