Summary: Film tribute to the first ten years of the Central Electricity Board of Malaya.
Description: A brief dramatic episode emphasises the modern home's dependence upon electricity. Various activities are shown - cable laying, workshops, staff training, clerical work, etc. The CEB's policy of rural electrification takes its engineers "hacking through jungle and slogging through swamps" to lay cable and connect up homes. It is an exciting day, especially for the children, when the householder switches on the light for the first time. The latter half of the film provides a general view of CEB organisation: maintenance and customer services; staff facilities - the CEB is a "model employer"; power generation by diesels, hydro-electric power, and oil-fired turbines; the increase in generating capacity since 1949, illustrated with graphics; planning by the Board for increased power supplies and the extension of the national grid. A new power station is opened and a $100 million loan negotiated in the USA to finance a giant HEP scheme. With increased power comes more consumers and industry - greater prosperity for Malaya. Power makes life easier and brighter - truly a magic servant.
