Description: Returning servicemen are touched by the sight of hungry French children, and ask an accompanying UNRRA official what is being done. He tells them of UN efforts to obtain "enough food for all and the right kind of food." The soldiers reflect upon their own backgrounds - a farmer recalls the crushing mortgage burdens after 1918, and an industrial worker remembers the depression, with unemployment, bad housing, and adulterated food. The official reminds them that town and country are different sides of the same coin, and propounds a simple theory of economic interdependence. The soldier 'Harry' returns to his farm. He has noticed the "tidy work" accomplished during his absence, and his father describes the intensive agriculture developed during the war. If these gains are to be preserved, together with the extra manpower brought onto the land, the government must provide workers' housing and financial security. The father worries about the effects of industrial wage demands - whereupon Harry explains his newly learnt economic theories. Meanwhile, back in a factory, another of the ex-soldiers defends the farmers against attacks from his workmates. Unity means prosperity for all.
