Summary: An edition of the British official newsreel "World Pictorial News", produced by the Ministry of Information, Middle East.
Description: I. 'BOY SCOUTS PARADE.' Boy scouts parade with Union flags and scout contingent banners in the quadrangle of Windsor Castle. The parade and march past is watched by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth and Princess Elizabeth. The commentary proclaims "A thousand representatives of British youth face up to new peacetime horizons!"
II. 'NEWS FROM EUROPE.' United States (US) Army officers (some wear SHAEF sleeve insignia) enjoy a cabaret in a Munich dining hall where they watch performing bears riding bicycles and an elephant/horse balancing act.
III. 'SPORTS ITEMS.' British Prime Minister Clement R Attlee meets players from Wigan and Wakefield Trinity rugby teams before the start of the Rugby League cup final held at Wembley Stadium in Middlesex. Panoramic footage shows the fifty-five thousand spectators enjoying the match from the stands. Highlights of the match follow (Wakefield Trinity win 13-12). Attlee presents the trophy to the captain of the winning side. Crowds of spectators gather at the paddock before the start of the two thousand guineas held at Newmarket in Suffolk. Spectators arrive by car at Newmarket, driving to the designated parking area. A sign reads "Aircraft park here". Highlights of the race follow.
IV. 'BRITAIN'S MIGHTIEST BATTLESHIP.' Stock shot footage shows Princess Elizabeth talking to Admiral Andrew B Cunningham at Clydebank prior to launching HMS Vanguard on November 30 1944. Tugs manoeuvre the newly completed Vanguard on the Clyde before the battleship puts to sea for trials (May 1946). Aerial footage shows the 42,500-ton battleship on the Clyde. HMS Vanguard steams past Queen Elizabeth which is anchored off Greenock (Queen Elizabeth has been partially repainted in her civilian livery of the Cunard Steamship Company Ltd).
