Summary: The tenth in a series of films showing the story of air power and its impact on the world. This episode shows the attack on France known as Operation Overlord.
Description: The film shows: the Normandy coastline, ten years after D-Day; an explanation of the French Resistance movement; the attack by the Allied Expeditionary Air Force; the situation by the spring of 1944 as D-Day grew near; how the British were preparing for this at home; the beginning of the attack in early June; D-Day itself; the phantom fleet in the straits of Dover to make the Germans believe our attack was to be there; the BBC from London announcing the landing of Allied forces in France; the King of England in France; plans being made for the next phase of the war and the advance through France; scenes of destruction; the French celebrating liberation; and shots of de Gaulle. The film concludes with the following statement: 'The Allies are back in France and our Allied air force is here to stay until the war is won, they are a hundred times stronger than before'.
