Summary: Recruiting film for the Civil Defence Corps.
Description: Opening scenes show nuclear explosion and devastated Hiroshima. "The bomb that fell on Hiroshima, fell on us all." Now the H-bomb constitutes an even more terrible threat. World leaders work for peace (1955 4-power summit), but until it is secured Britain cannot weaken its home defences. LS of H-bomb test, and graphics representing zone of destruction on a map. If the H-bomb were ever dropped, there would still be areas around the centre of destruction where existence could be translated into survival, but only by skilled aid. This assistance could be provided only by those now training in Civil Defence. Montage of CD activities - warden, telephonist, despatch rider, rescue worker, stretcher bearer, welfare worker. The Civil Defence Corps is preparing now. "It has the knowledge, the equipment, and the spirit. What it lacks is the men and women it needs in numbers. The Civil Defence Corps needs you."
