Summary: Recruiting film for the Civil Defence Corps.
Description: Opening montage evokes nostalgia for pre-war period - Crystal Palace fire, George VI's coronation, Leonard Hutton's triple century - "Life was like a show." When Hitler threatened peace (inserts from TRIUMPH OF THE WILL), many childishly hoped to avoid the crisis by ignoring it. Even when war came, there was time for evacuations and other measures. "By the time London was on fire we had had a year to prepare." Nuclear war will be immediate in its effect. Although the prospects for peace are better now than they have been for a decade, Britain cannot weaken its home defences. Montage of CD workers - HQ staff, first aid and rescue, reconstruction, etc. "They are the people who know that preparation is survival. You know it too, if you are honest with yourself. There is a job for you in Civil Defence."
