Summary: Recruiting film showing the experiences of one intake of new recruits on the year-long Army Junior Leaders course.
Description: Five hundred new recruits arrive at Folkestone and are taken to camp for induction. After a night's sleep they are formally welcomed by the CO who explains the purpose of the Junior Leader's course. A year of training leads to the cadet choosing their battalion and entering at the rank of Lance Corporal. Aspects of the cadets' life are then shown: kitting out, parades, aspects of training, sports, recreation. Full-scale manoeuvres in Norfolk; assault training. Night exercise. Disciplinary hearing (Junior Leader Perrin who fell asleep on sentry duty). Overseas training in Germany, including visit to Berlin - Checkpoint Charlie, monument to Marietta Jirkowski (killed trying to climb the Wall in 1980). Back to Britain: trek across Cairngorms in full kit. End of term at Shorncliffe: Christmas celebrations. Passing out parade, with cadets (voiceover) explaining what they have got out of the course.
