Summary: The life and work of the Red Arrows aerobatics team (1970 roll).
Description: The Red Arrows are one of the best aerobatics teams in the world, flying Mk 1 Hawker Siddeley Gnats - footage of them on a fishing trip to Stornoway and in action. The team are introduced: Peter Mackintosh (team manager), Dicky Duckett (27, Team No 9 - solo pilot), John Haddock (No 5), Ian Dick (No 6 - solo pilot), Douglas Smith (No 3), Douglas Marr (No 8), New Zealander Ewan Perrett (?) (No 2), Dennis Hazell (boss of flight), George White (engineer officer), Squadron Leader John Rusk (No 4, team manager), Bill Loverseed (one of the founder members). All are on a three year stay. Preparations for one of their 17-minute displays is detailed, and the various members describe aspects of Red Arrow life (including stories of aerial alert). At their base at Kemble, the problems of training are discussed; Duckett and Dick, the two solo pilots, explain the tactics of their crossover manoeuvre. Film ends with an extensive montage of the Red Arrows in action.
