  • Description: I. Franco visits Escorial. General Franco is met by Minister of Party Arrese on arrival at El Escorial, then, accompanied by Arrese and Minister of Foreign Affairs General Count Jordana, walks across courtyard to be greeted by bishop. Franco then pays homage beside tomb. II. Danish general election. Montage of Danish pamphlets and newspapers, including 23 March headline in Berlingske Tidende "Today Denmark votes" and separate appeal to vote Social Democrat, introduces scenes in streets of Copenhagen on polling day. Horse-drawn buses overcome petrol shortage. Voters go into polling booths and afterwards votes are tipped out of urns and counted. III. Croatian Labour Service. Members of Labour Service emerge from barracks, line up on parade with spades then start digging in field and constructing hut. IV. German saw mill. With snow lying outside, timber is cut, stacked and finished in saw mill. V. Admiral Horthy opens bridge over Danube. Regent of Hungary opens road girder bridge bearing plaque 1939-1942 and shakes hands with line of workers. VI. Cycle and ski race in French Alps. VII. Flemish nationalist meeting in Brussels. Leader of Vlaamsch National Verbond enters large indoor stadium in Brussels at head of column of German officers and VNV uniformed members. Flemish and French Winter Help banners adorn stadium. Dr Hendrik Elias then speaks from stand against backdrop of Flemish lion rampant to largely uniformed audience including many youth members. VIII. German air and ground attacks in Tunisia. Animated map of North Africa from Böne to Gabès. Soldiers stand on lookout in (Atlas ?) foothills. Junkers Ju 87s bomb British and US positions in desert. artillery including 17cm K 18 in Mrs Laf pounds inhabited valley before tanks move forward to attack. British prisoners drop their weapons, then British and Americans are seen together. German soldiers set off, passing two dead enemy lying in the road. large stock of captured guns, grenade cases, litter-strewn trench and wrecked Churchill tank over which Germans climb, plus wrecked Sherman suggest victory over enemy. IX. Tank battle against Russians in Rzhev Salient. Animated map of Eastern Front from Lake Ilmen to Kursk. German forces fight off Russian tank attack south of Vyazma. Wrecked Russian A-20 and T-34 tanks in snow suggest outcome of battle. X. Germans clear village east of Kharkov. Animated map of Eastern Front from Moscow to Kerch. View from inside StuG III Ausf F as it fires across thawing snowscape. Village blazes on horizon, as infantry move forward towards burning houses firing machine guns and MP 40. Russian is pulled out of farmhouse, with dead Russian visible in foreground. Wrecked Russian tanks ablaze. Waffen SS soldier stares at camera. Russian soldiers lie dead in foreground beside primitive housing and strutting cockerel, as German army passes in background (Sdkfz 250 and Marder III SPG). Pzkpfw IV passes blazing T-34. Dead lie in frozen ditch, with knocked-out Russian guns, tanks and dead in snow beside building further suggesting German success. XI. German bombers attack on Eastern Front. Heinkel He 111s stand on thawed muddy airfield (Southern sector) before taxiing and taking off (KJ+FI, VG+HR). Aerial view of gun position. Junkers Ju 88s (5K+60) fly over Russian positions and release bombs, as does He 111 (clear underview), causing visible explosions below.
