  • Description: I. Hitler Youth boys and girls bring in harvest. Members of Hitlerjugend sharpen scythes and harness horses then set off with counterparts from Bund deutscher Mädel to make stooks of hay and load ox carts. II. German fishermen are honoured. War has demonstrated importance of fishing for feeding population. Fishing nets hang to dry and trawlermen haul in catch in coastal waters before returning to shore; eels are weighed. Minister for Food Backe presents Master Fisher Dohrn from Adolf-Hitler Koog (Süderdithmarschen ) and fishing boat captain Schütte (wearing WWI decorations) from Wesermünde with Knights Cross to Kriegsverdienstkreuz. III. Clown Fritschi entertains wounded and convalescent servicemen in theatre. IV. German Naval Flak brings down enemy in Northern Italy. Animated map of Italy from Ravenna to Florence and Livorno. Flak on tripod mount is trained by naval gunners against American bombers; one bomb falls on road nearby. Impressed Italian 7.5cm Flak, with victory rings, is fired from mount and 2cm Flakvierling opens fire against twin-engined bomber (Boston ?). German Naval Flak team in truck in Florence area corners violently in rush to capture shot down pilot; US airman surrenders his camera-gun (with marking "Pull down lever before closing door" and "Property of US ..."). German Petty Officer (Obermaat), awarded German Cross in Gold for 40 kills, stands with his comrades. Elsewhere Germans demolish ground installations by detonating charges; paratroops of Fallschirmpanzerdivision Hermann Goering engage in streetfighting, firing MP40, Panzerschreck and MG42 and advancing through smoking rubble. V. German air and ground forces counterattack on Northern Sector of Eastern Front. Animated map of Eastern Front from Narva to Warsaw. Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter-bombers take off on mission to attack Soviet supplies and armour; Bf 109s in flight. Generalleutnant Seidemann, commanding 8th Fliegerkorps, meets Major Rudel, whose Junkers Ju 87s (aerial views) attack Russian tank on exposed road (poor view). While enemy is reportedly held from Finnish Bight to the Carpathians, grenadiers help wounded comrade to field dressing station, where soldier is given injection and has leg bandaged. German infantry advance through wire and smoke and Pzkpfw V passes through blazing town cleared of enemy. Another (422) speeds through field and along road; Sdkfz 7/1 2cm Flak passes through smoke. Great flames pierce the night. VI. Sepp Dietrich makes investiture on Western Front. Animated map from Le Havre to Brest. SS-Oberstgruppenführer, himself awarded the Diamonds to his Knights Cross (on 6 August), presents Knights Crosses to men of the 1st SS-Panzerkorps Leibstandarte; decorated heroes pose and smile. Telephoto film records progress along distant road of British assault unit, taken by surprise by German MG42 and flak fire. Command post of heavy artillery unit gives live orders for heavy howitzer to open fire against enemy transport; air alarm interrupts attack, causing gun to be camouflaged, then fired. 8.8cm Flak batteries open fire and two planes descend in flames. Camera pans over artillery explosions in distance.
