- Description: I. Heart specialist Professor Weber at work. Snow lies in front of entrance to (Berlin ?) Medizinisches Institut, where Dr Weber, who has spent thirty years dedicated to heart research, listens to patient's heartbeat which is simultaneously monitored by electrocardiogram. II. Girls join Wehrmacht Auxiliary Corps. Call of Reichsfrauenführer in (Frau Scholtz-Klink, not seen) and Reichsreferent der Bund deutscher Mädel for formation of Wehrmachthelferinnen korps has led girls to join up at local NSDAP reporting offices. Woman wearing cuffband of NSDAP Frauenschaft Gau Berlin and another with BdM Berlin badge sign on young girls (18-21, over 21) for service (to be specified later) to help the fighting front. III. Trapeze artistes entertain troops. The Two Giraldos (man and woman) from the Zirkus Sarrasani perform on trapeze for audience of armament workers and soldiers. IV. Himmler presents Close Combat medals to Army and Waffen SS heroes. Eighty-one members of the Army and Waffen SS who have been in close combat with the enemy at least fifty times receive Nahkampfspange in Gold from Chief of Ersatz Army Himmler at indoor ceremony. Decorated soldiers include one Gebirgsjäger who already holds German Cross and Knights Cross and a soldier of 3rd SS-Panzer-Division Totenkopf. V. Goebbels addresses workers after air raid on West German town. Speaking in an assembly hall just after a terror attack which has left gaping windows, and with the smell of fire and smoke still in the air, Goebbels reportedly declared that our generation is experiencing the birth of a new world, which as with the birth of a human being takes place in pain and tears and involves suffering and danger. VI. Germans defend Courland Front. Animated map of Eastern Front from Tilsit to Cracow. Grenadiers wait on defensive in trench behind MG 34 (with columnating sight) and two StG 44 assault rifles. Generalleutnant Baade, holder of Swords to Knights Cross, awards Knights Cross to 18th and 19th men in his Division (90th Panzergrenadier) to be so decorated, Oberfeldwebel Heinkel and Oberfeldwebel Mitschke. Attempt by Anglo-American forces to cross Po Valley has been foiled for weeks by German forces; paratroops open fire with artillery causing explosion and Nebelwerfer fires. Grenadiers and paratroops fire from ruins; paratrooper fires Panzerschreck from upright position and Sherman tank smoulders after hit. Other paratroopers fire Panzerfaust and Panzerschreck from crouching positions, destroying Shermans which burn. X. Germans defend Roermond against attack. Animated map of Western Front from Amsterdam to Belfort. River front in Roermond, centre of fighting for weeks, stands burnt out as paratroops rush crouching through town. Dykes demolished by Germans near Arnhem have increased floods acting as obstacle to enemy. Crew of self-propelled gun (Sturmpanzer IV ?) are congratulated by their company commander (Panzer Regiment 23) and holder of Knights Cross Hauptmann Gauglitz, who awards five bearded gunners the Iron Cross. Two Sdkfz 251s fitted with Nebelwerfer projector framework crates moves into position in town and open fire from street against British concentrations. XI. German fighters over Western Front. Paratroops look skywards as Messerschmitt Bf 109s with fuel tanks fly overhead. Camera-gun film records German fighter-bomber attacks on road targets. Focke-Wulf Fw 190s fly past; camera-gun film records attack. Bf 109s fly in formation; camera-gun records shooting up enemy fighter and disintegration of American plane. Soldiers and airmen look overhead at vapour trails, as if following aerial combat. In distance on ground a huge explosion is caused by exploding oil dump.
