Summary: Military instructional film demonstrates the use of mountain rescue equipment in a mountain army medical service school exercise in the snow-covered Alps.
Description: The realistic exercise involves a mountain troop patrol which comes under fire while climbing a cliff face. Ski troops in white camouflage clothing provide covering fire as two medical orderlies tend two wounded soldiers whom they then lower to safety. Other orderlies meanwhile arrive to transport the wounded, now on stretchers fixed to skis, back to the main dressing station. After crossing the snow line, stretchers are fixed to wheels. Final demonstration of rescue equipment shows an avalanche probe locating a soldier buried in the snow. Other items of rescue equipment demonstrated are the following: tackle for carrying and lowering by rope, braking device, sheet for carrying wounded, clasp for fixing skis together, portable sledge, sledge stretcher and single wheeled stretcher.
