Summary: Unedited film of the transfer of an S-Boat from Germany to the Black Sea via autobahn and the Danube in 1942.
Description: 1. Tugs pull three S-Boats with stripped superstructures up the Elbe from Hamburg to Dresden. Here one S-Boat is winched ashore. 2. S-Boat is fitted onto a trailer and towed by prime mover along an autobahn towards the Thuringian Forest. Close-up view of the German eagle emblem on an autobahn bridge. 3. Autobahn journey continues through the Thuringian Forest. Season is wintry. S-Boat is launched in the Danube near Ingolstadt and is towed downstream by tug to Linz. 4. S-Boat now has superstructure fitted and is painted white. Vessel leaves Linz towed by tug and passes Vienna, Bratislava (?), Budapest and Belgrade. 5. S-Boat continues past Belgrade. Crew on deck together with Rumanian and Hungarian (?) officers. Through the Iron Gates. Writing up log, dated 22-25 October 1942. Two fishermen row alongside. 6. Passing a railway bridge across the Danube. Town on right bank protected by barrage balloons is probably Cernavoda. Crew eating on deck. S-Boat passing through Danube Delta into the Black Sea and arriving at Constanza. (S-Boat is from 1st Flotilla which served in the Black Sea from 1942 to 1944).
