Summary: Unedited film of the transfer of two Raumboote (Motor Launches) and two Naval Ferry Barges via the French river and canal network to the Mediterranean, and views of bomb damage in a French town.
Description: 1. Raümboot in harbour is stripped of its armoured superstructure and has its engines removed for loading aboard railway trucks. Sailors line up with mess-tins beside a railway kitchen marked "Mitropa". Stripping of Raümboot continues until it is ready for dry-dock. Close-up views of hull. Boat has sword insignia on bow. 2.a) Tug pulls two Raümboote with stripped superstructures up the Seine through Paris, giving views of the Samaritaine building, Pont des Arts, Academy and Notre Dame. Season appears to be Spring. b) Naval Ferry Barge F430 is lifted from a river in the Franche-Comte, loaded onto wheels and hauled away by seven prime movers. 3.a) German soldiers help fight a blaze in a French town after an air raid. Women in summer dresses salvage their belongings. b) Severely damaged French harbour and installations. Clearance of rubble begins. 4. Continuation of 2a). Two Raümboote continue up Seine, passing Naval Ferry Barge F461. (Motor launches probably form part of Raümbootsflotille 12, transferred to the Mediterranean early in 1943. F430 and F461 were built in November and December 1942).
