Description: Transport convoy of three Fiat trucks wends its way down a poor track beside a rocky mountain to a small inlet near Foros, base of MAS Flotilla 10. Here at a site specially prepared and camouflaged by German Pioneers, a 45 cm torpedo is adjusted and loaded into one of the boats, which is then launched. Italian crew don helmets and three motor torpedo boats speed across the Black Sea before returning to base. Close-up view of pennant with skull and crossbones marked 15,000, presumably tonnage sunk. (These boats form part of the Italian Navy unit sent to the Black Sea after Raeder's formal request for aid of 14 January 1942. Operations by MTSMs against Russian convoys supplying besieged Sebastopol began on 5 June 1942.)
