Summary: Travelogue down the river Danube.
Description: Journey starts at St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, then moves downstream affording riverside and land views of the other Danube cities and various features of historical and cultural interest. Danube which is described as Germany's great waterway to the East flows out of the Reich at Theben, then passes Bratislava, Esztergom, Budapest and the Hungarian puszta, where Magyars in traditional costume round up horses and pose as shepherds and cowherds. Curious mills on the Danube and the site of a battle against the Turks are passed before Belgrade is reached. Views of the zoo, citadel, royal palace and monument to the Unknown Soldier on Mount Avala, with sculpture by Mestrovic. Journey continues past Sementria (Semedria/Smederevo), the parrot rock in mid-river, Serbian castle of Bolubas, the Kasan Pass, the Turkish island of Abulkalei and the Iron Gates. The Rumanian (Romanian) section of the voyage includes a visit to Silistra with the oriental appearance of its inhabitants and mosques and then a look at Braila before the journey ends in the Delta region, inhabited by fishermen who live in houses built on stilts and who are seen at market and catching dolphins in nets. Final shot is probably of Constanza harbour.
