Summary: First two reels of a feature film which portrays the comradeship and dedication of German mountain riflemen.
Description: Story opens shortly before the outbreak of war in a mountain village whose swastika-waving inhabitants welcome the arrival of mountain riflemen to their new garrison. Festive mood is later embittered at a village dance by the resentment and jealousy felt by two villagers, Hannes and Sepp, towards a smart young officer, Unterkirchner, who dances with Christl, the girl they now reveal they both love. Fretful Hannes then challenges Unterkirchner to climb the dangerous face of a mountain. Sepp gets into difficulties and has to be rescued by Unterkirchner's men. Scene changes on the eve of hostilities to an enlistment centre where everyone volunteers to join the mountain riflemen, then back to the garrison where men are preparing to depart for war. Unterkirchner and Hannes, about to say goodbye to Christl, agree that it is for her to choose whom she will marry. Rivals in love are now brothers in arms, imbued with the ideal of comradeship which will make them invincible in the trials ahead.
