Description: (Reel 1) Three Type VII U-boats steam in line ahead through heavy sunlit sea. In port torpedoes are transferred from U-boat tender into U-boat as fat commander watches from conning tower. Sailor's capband identifies unit as Flotilla Hundius based at Wilhelmshaven. Commander, a Kapitänleutnant, calls his three officers into his cabin to check that all is ready. Officers heil Hitler. At sea commander receives message passed across by line from Type 1915 minesweeper U-boat tender T-156. Message is to attack British shipping. Document marked U-43 may identify interior of Type IXA U-43 of Flotilla Hundius. U-boat cruises to tune of "Wir fahren gegen Engelland" until commander on conning tower spots plane which causes emergency dive. Commander at periscope. Deschimag 1939 nameplate. Cook in galley. After all clear , U-boat surfaces in calm sunlit sea.
(Reel 2) Commander on conning tower scans sea and spots steamer. Deck gun is loaded and warning shot fired. More shells are passed up and fired at steamer, now smouldering. Alarm called as four destroyers approach, causing emergency dive. Two R-boats drop depth charges in distance, as shudder inside U-boat suggests near miss. After all clear, U-boat surfaces in rough sea, with crew wearing oils, then submerges. Crew relax, playing cards, listening to "Rosemarie" on wireless and dividing apple into sections. Commander sits down with crew to describe action of torpedo. Alarm sequence, surfacing in heavy sea, scanning horizon and spotting three steamers before torpedoes are prepared and fired. Ship sinks and U-boat surfaces. (Slight break and abrupt ending over final optimistic naval song.)
