Summary: Instructional film illustrates the work of German sappers during an attack exercise across a river.
Description: Film shot within the training area of a School for Army Engineers shows how sappers lay a pontoon bridge across a wide river in the way of an advancing division. Bridging parties approach the river (animation) under covering fire from a 3.7 cm Pak and MG 34 and ferry an infantry detachment across in Sturmboote to form a bridgehead. Assembly of the pontoon bridge now begins and an end platform pier is ferried across the river before the bridge is completed by the pontoon rafts being rowed into position. Motorcycle reconnaissance troops and tanks (38(t) and 11A) cross over to attack preceded by other sappers who detonate a path through enemy anti-tank obstacles. A smaller bridge is laid across a canal and sappers then press forward clearing a mine field and throwing smoke grenades. Exercise ends to the sound of martial music with the storming of the enemy positions before film fades out over a Pionier Sturmabzeichen, the Assault Engineer badge.
