Summary: Instructional film uses black and white film and Agfacolor animated diagrams to illustrate the combustion process of the ingolin-fuelled torpedo.
Description: Reel 1. Part A: the power unit. Over film of torpedo being fired and resting on a stand, commentary points out that high speed, great range and invisible course of new Uto torpedo distinguish it from outwardly identical earlier torpedoes. Animation and film show operation of turbine engine which emits gases which dissolve in sea.
Reel 2. Part B: combustion. Performance of Uto relies on special combustion process. Female laboratory assistant shows how ingolin mixed with helman ignites immediately. Since helman leaves nitrogen bubbles, it is only used for ignition and then replaced by dekalin as propellant fuel.
Reel 3. Part C: fuel to combustion chamber. Central section of torpedo holds dekalin, ingolin and helman in separate containers. Coloured diagrams show passage of fuels to combustion chamber and commentary recapitulates description of process.
Reel 4. Part D: safety arrangements when handling ingolin. Uto torpedo is filled with ingolin prior to being loaded aboard U-boat. Flammability of ingolin is illustrated in laboratory where girl knocks over ingolin container which ignites on contact with dirt and is extinguished by water. Naval worker carefully cleans shoes after spilling ingolin while filling torpedo. Ingolin is irritant and dangerous but non-poisonous substance, which may in emergencies need to be drained from torpedo.
