Summary: Newsreel item uses training sequences and day-for-night exposure to represent S-boat torpedo attack against merchant vessel.
Description: Scenes on board early-type S-boat show helm, engine room and signalling scenes. Six early-type S-boats at high speed in line ahead include S-15, S-8 and S-11 (all operational at outbreak of war). Edited night-time operation starts as S-boat casts off, then in line ahead with five others. Flak is manned expectantly. S-boat stops engine and waits in calm moonlit sea, as clock shows 0215hrs. Commander scans sea, spots freighter on horizon and fires torpedo. Tracer fire pierces the night as explosion and flames on horizon indicate a hit.
