Description: A Do 217E is seen in flight and landing. Its main features are described. Inside the factory, a Do 217 is assembled. The outer wing section is first bolted on to the wing and centre fuselage section and the control rods and electrics connected. The ailerons and trim tabs are attached and their alignment checked with a template. The rear fuselage is brought up and attached. The connections for the engines (fuel, oil, etc.) on the exposed front of the nacelles are shown. In the rear of the cabin the switchboard cover and batteries are put in place. The cabin front and nose cone are attached. The rudders and elevators with trim tabs and balances are next attached and aligned and the tail assembly fixed to the fuselage. The fuel tanks are strapped into their compartments, and the flaps and the rear of the engine nacelles fixed on. The umbrella type dive brake is fastened to the rear of the fuselage and tested. The undercarriage and doors are attached and tested. Then the two BMW 801 engine units are bolted on, the connections made and propellers attached.
