Summary: An explanation of the basic geometric principles of astro-navigation.
Description: The film (which consists entirely of animated diagrams) first defines the concept of the geographical position ("Bildpunkt") of a heavenly body, and shows how its altitude ("Höhe") varies according to the position of the observer on the earth's surface. The azimuth is then defined (the geographical direction of the geographical position). Finally the film shows why the line from any point on the earth's surface to the geographical position is always part of a great circle centred at the earth's centre.
