- Notes: Summary: in 1916 the War Office Cinema Committee took over the Topical Film Company to provide itself with a full-time production company. This collection represents the Topical 'film dump' of extra sections generated in the normal course of film production, including out-takes, edits, censored material and spoiled film. The 'dump' consists chiefly of British material of the Western and Home Fronts but includes fragments from Palestine, Russia and Italy as well as material of the Japanese Navy, US Army and similar formations. Almost all of this material is duplicated elsewhere in the IWM film series, particularly in the WAR OFFICE OFFICIAL TOPICAL BUDGET newsreel. Some of the scenes appear to be unique 'missing' items from the newsreel itself; while other sections may also be unique. The fragments of film come in no particular order or length, and most are, by their very nature, unidentifiable. A very few reels have captions Technical: this film has 42 reels numbered 1-41. Reel 14 has two versions. Remarks: a film researcher desperate to find one particular item, or a film historian trying to reconstruct a missing film, might find this monster worth watching; others are advised to leave it alone Series continuity: there is no film held as IWM 500
