Summary: A film on the development of aircraft snow skis up to the winter of 1938-39.
Description: Captions explain that efforts have been made to standardise ski production, resulting in four types to suit aircraft in each of four weight categories. An assortment of pre-standardisation skis are first shown, followed by examples of each of the new types mounted on a Bücker Bu 131, an He 72B, an Ar 68E and the heaviest type on a Junkers W 34 and on an Fw 58E. As a demonstration, skis are fitted on an Ar 66, after first jacking it up and removing the wheels and brake assemblies. There are further shots of aircraft fitted with the new skis, including an He 51 and a Klemm Kl 35B, and demonstrations of how to move aircraft with skis - either on small trolleys or by shovelling tracks in the snow. The film then shows the skis being tested - a Bu 131 taxies over the snow, takes-off and lands, a Kl 35B attempts to take-off and only succeeds when the skis are readjusted, other aircraft (including an Fw 44) perform similar manoeuvres. The effect of taxiing and landing on badly adjusted skis is shown with an He 72, an Ar 66 and a Go 145.
