Summary: Groundcrew work on oxygen equipment.
Description: An He 111 lands and the crew hand over their oxygen masks as they disembark. A high pressure hose is connected to the aircraft oxygen inlet from a supply lorry after precautions to ensure against moisture and dirt in the system. The valves are opened and oxygen pumped in to a pressure of 165 atmospheres. After disconnection, the aircraft is towed into a hangar. All valves and joints are tested for leaks by brushing on soap solution and watching for bubbles. A leaky valve is changed and several leaky joints tightened up. Possible malfunction of each crew member's supply unit is carefully investigated (diagrams show possible problems due to dirty filters etc). The hose couplings are tested for tightness using a spring gauge - means of adjustment are shown. The masks are taken away for thorough washing with water and solvent, and hung up to dry.
