Summary: Documentary on training of German Paratroops, from practice ground falls to final airborne attack exercise.
Description: Training begins (at headquarters base of Fallschirmjägerregiment 1) with practice falls on mattresses in hangar, swing control and dropping from door of Junkers Ju 52/3m. Trainees are then taught ground control on open airfield where wind is generated by propeller on wingless fuselage. After learning to pack parachutes paratroops make their first live jumps from different altitudes, including very low level (filmed from ground). Close-up of Paratroop Badge (awarded after six jumps). Men are briefed for combat exercise, then line up and emplane in Junkers Ju 52/3m aircraft after final checking of equipment. Paratroops jump, repeated in slow motion, and descend beneath white canopies to earth (filmed through struts of camera biplane). They quickly unhitch parachute harnesses, open weapons containers and advance across sandy pine wood area, covered by MG 34. Smokescreen is generated to cover advance past simulated explosions and light of tracer fire, patterned against day-for-night exposure.
