- Description: I. Wintry conditions in Rome. Especially heavy snowfalls across Europe are represented by winter views of Rome, looking across from the Tivoli Gardens to the Vatican. Views of the remains of Classical Rome and the Tiber. II. Swimming in the Seine. Traditional winter swimming race across the Seine to the Pont d'Alexandre sees Hubert win. III. Motorcycle race in Hungary. Fifty motorcyclists race in testing conditions of ice and snow. IV Cabaret in Paris. Opening of winter season of cabaret is represented by scenes from new production at Tabarin club, where audience includes German officers in front row. A balletic recreation of Adam and Eve is followed by the cancan. V. Clown performs in Berlin. Benno Faltermeier plays a comic form of ice hockey on skates at Sportpalast. VI. Minting coins in Poland. Mint in the Government General produces vast numbers of 10 Groszy coins. VII. Meeting of Norway's new state commission. Members of Quisling' government (dominated by members of his Nasjonal Samling) arrive for their first major meeting, held in a small room. Head of the Police Department Jonas Lie is recognisable in his uniform. (End of Reel 1) VIII. (Reel 2) German police in Norwegian Lapland. German police patrol on skis arrives on daily visit to Lapp shop which sells reindeer leather scales for warmth. IX. Italian mountain troops receive presents on King's birthday. Dopo Lavoro organisation distributes presents to soldiers on skis and troops in the snow to mark the birthday of King Victor Emmanuel III. X. Captured enemy matériel in storage. Vast quantity of military and industrial items and machinery captured in the West lie arrayed and labelled in a warehouse. Lathes, milling tools, drills, film cans, cameras, wireless receivers, transmitters and navigational equipment. XI. Luftwaffe training school. Recruits at Luftwaffe training school receive instruction in navigation, flying blind in a simulator, ship recognition from the air, bomb aiming and air gunnery practice from a moving platform. Junkers Ju 88 with edelweiss emblem of III/Kampfgeschwader 51 taxies before take-off. XII. Admiral Hipper in port and Gneisenau sinking British merchantmen. Heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper prepares to leave port with sun low in the sky and dock worker in foreground lifting rope off bollard. Torpedo is prepared and loaded into tube on board a German capital ship. Broadside views of Gneisenau at sea. Arado Ar 196 floatplane is catapulted off to reconnoitre. On board either Scharnhorst or Gneisenau with two triple turrets visible. Kapitän zur See Meisel Arado Ar 196 with seahorse emblem of Bordfliegergruppe 196 lands alongside ship and is lifted aboard by crane. Voyage continues through heavy seas then guns fire at "heavily armed British merchantman". Direct hit causes an explosion. Crew of a second enemy merchantman are rescued in heavy seas from a lifeboat before their ship is sunk by capital ship firing tracer.
