Summary: 1st Corps formations in the Orne bridgehead go briefly onto the offensive.
Description: I. On the eve of 152nd Brigade's attack on Sainte-Honorine-la-Chardonnerette, the 5th Battalion Cameron Highlanders crosses the River Orne at Bénouville over a bridge in use by vehicles (notably a captured Kübelwagen) from various units within the 51st (Highland) Division, the 27th Armoured Brigade and 1st Corps travelling in both directions. At the Battalion's assembly area, an officer dictates a message to signallers operating a jeep-mounted wireless set. Cooks collect hot meal ration boxes from a lorry and men queue up for supper.
II. A 152nd Brigade HQ jeep lays a cable from the 5th Battalion's HQ to its forward companies. The first Wehrmacht prisoners from Ste-Honorine-la-Chardonnerette are brought in. At Longueval, Cameron Highlanders scour farm buildings for snipers and dig in. German mortar bombs land in front of their positions. The camera scans the Schneider steelworks at Les Colombelles, a German-held industrial suburb of Caen. A Bren gunner keeps watch over no-man's land.
III. A two-man Royal Marine Commando team, using a captured German short-arm mine detector, sets off to clear a path through an overgrown minefield opposite 4th Special Service Brigade's sector of the front near Sallenelles.
