  • Description: I. Women gymnastics championship in Leipzig. Women perform on parallel bars. Movements in slow motion. II. Lumbermen in Bavarian Alps. Lumbermen ease timber free in mountain ravine so that force of dammed-up stream propels logs down falls in Berchtesgaden region. III. Distribution of gifts to soldiers' families. Donations of money and gifts contributed to the Wünschkonzert from all corners of the Reich and from friends of Germany abroad are distributed by the NSV welfare organisation to families of soldiers in the field. Toys and dolls in prams are given to children whilst women pack parcels. IV. Inspection of dogs for military service. Headed paper of Polizeipräsident of Essen introduces film of various dogs being tested for aptitude for Army use. Bulldogs and Alsatians, and diminutive breeds providing comic relief, are deliberately provoked in order to reveal strength and courage, watched by their owners. V. German locomotive production. Importance of railways in wartime is affirmed, as parts of locomotives are forged and assembled in factory. Completed locomotives leave the factory for trial runs. VI. German barbed wire production. Barbed wire for use on the Siegfried Line is manufactured from ordinary wire by adding barbs. Workers stack finished rolls. Large stockpile of barbed wire is stored behind the front line. Wire protects a river bank from the enemy. VII. Instruction at a German Naval School. Modern Wehrmacht's requirement for trained technicians is catered for by Technical Naval Schools, where non-commissioned officers receive instruction in chemistry, physics and technical drawing. Sailors study in classroom and engine-room, then practise naval gunnery firing from a moving platform and naval anti aircraft fire from a flak platform by the coast against a towed target. VIII. German mountain artillery exercise. 7.5cm GebK 15 mountain gun is dismantled and hauled up a rock escarpment in the Mittelgebirge then reassembled for firing. IX. German cyclist company on manoeuvres. Cyclist troops take cover off the road as four Messerschmitt Bf 109Es swoop low in mock attack. Flak team fire tripod-mounted MG 34, then men don gasmasks before proceeding on bicycles. X. German attack exercise on Western Front. Soldiers cross Rhine by rubber dinghy, transporting cycles and 3.7cm Pak. Soldier arms himself before exercise with stick grenade and Luger. Sappers advance through woods towards no man's land, protected by MG 34 and Pak 3.7cm 35/36. Library film from ground shows simultaneous Stuka attack, then shock troops press forward rapidly, supported by MG 34 and artillery and flamethrower fire "to occupy enemy positions" under cover of a smokescreen.
