Description: British soldiers of 2nd Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment shelter in the Buddhist pagodas at the top of Mandalay Hill and watch the battle unfold. General Sir Montagu Stopford (General Officer Commanding XXXIII Indian Corps) looks on as a pagoda on the plain burns fiercely. British troops watch the fire from the hill as well. British troops carry a stretcher case up a covered walkway. Troops and damage to the building. Troops walk past a large Buddha statue. An officer watches the battle and chats to a couple of men in front of a statue of Buddha. A dead Japanese soldier lies on his side in rubble and another lies in the bottom of a hole. British troops load tank ammunition.
